Background: Cadmium is a highly toxic metal pollutant that has carcinogenic and teratogenicity action. It mainly harms liver and kidney function. Therefore, cadmium content is strictly limited by all types of water quality standards. For example, the Sanitary Standard for Drinking Water of China(GB5749-2006)stipulates that the cadmium content shall never be higher than 0.005mg/L.As the traditional test method for cadmium is complicated, the R&D team of Thaile Chemical has successfully developed “Thaile” cadmium test kit for quick on-spot testing. The new test kit can greatly simplify the operation and significantly lower the testing cost with reliable testing result.
Principle: A special reagent with high sensitivity is used to react with the cadmium ion in the water to form a color of brick red.
Purpose: Quick and quantitative test of water cadmium content. On-spot quick test in various water consumption field, including industry, agriculture, aquiculture, healthcare, environment and domestic.
Features:
1.Quick and easy: No special training is required, as long as the user follows the instruction. It takes only 5-10 minutes for the user to finish a cadmium content test for one water sample.
2.Accurate and reliable: With test results equivalent to what national standard suggests , it is an alternative of the national standard method.
3.Highly sensitive:The reagent is highly sensitive to cadmium ion, with precision as high as 0.1mg/L.
4.Affordable: Cost per test is low.
5.Portable: Compact in size, lightweight, suitable for on-spot quick test.
Operation:
1.Prepare the water sample for testing. Also prepare some pure water (or distilled water) for use in the blank test.
2.Take 2 colorimetric tubes and 2 plastics droppers. Wash one colorimetric tube and plastics dropper twice with water sample and the other colorimetric tube and plastics dropper twice with pure water. Then measure and add water sample and pure water into the colorimetric tubes respectively, up to the graduation mark of 15ml.
3.Drip 10 drops of Reagent Ⅰinto the two colorimetric tubes respectively and shake up.
4.Then drip 10 drops of Reagent Ⅱ into the two colorimetric tubes respectively and shake up.
5.Wait for 3 minutes, then start colorimetric test, the process should be finished within 10 minutes. First, vertically place the two colorimetric tubes 1cm above the blank area of the colorimetric card. Then visually compare the colors from above. The one that contains pure water shall appear light yellow (the cadmium content of qualified pure water shall be ≤0.005mg/L). If the water sample appears the same color as pure water, the cadmium content is lower than the lowest detectable level of 0.1mg/L. If the water sample appear deeper (or more red), the cadmium content of the water sample ≥0.1mg/L. Then, vertically place the colorimetric tube with water sample 1cm above the blank area of the colorimetric card and visually compare the colors from above. Read the cadmium content of the water sample by finding the color code that appear the same color as that of the liquid in the tube.
Notes:
1. This product has a detectable cadmium content range of 0.1-10.0mg/L, in which the higher the content the deeper the color (or more red). If the cadmium content of the water sample is not within this range, condense by distilling or dilute the water sample before testing. The actual result is obtained by adjusting the reading with corresponding volume change ratio.
2. If the water sample appear turbid, filter the sample or stand the sample until it is clear, then take sample from the upper part, before testing.
3. The pH of the water sample shall be controlled at 6.5-7.5. If out of this range, adjust the solution with diluted sodium hydroxide or hydrochloric acid before testing.
4. Copper、silver、mercury ions may interfere with this test.
5. Try to compare the colors in bright light.
6. The plastics droppers are used only for adjusting the water volume when measuring and taking the water, not for dripping the reagent. The above mentioned “drops” of reagent Ⅰ、Ⅱ represent the drops squeezed from the reagent bottle. The two colorimetric tubes and plastics droppers that are used for water sample and pure water respectively shall not be mixed with each other.
7. Reagent Ⅰ is an alkaline, avoid body contact as far as possible; reagent Ⅱ is inflammable, keep it away from fire. In case of skin or eye contact of the reagent, just wash it away with water.
8.After use, please tighten the cap to avoid ineffectiveness.
Liability:The manufacturer and its authorized agents are free from any liabilities due to accidental intake of children and misunderstanding or misuse of the users. If the results of test are dubious, please present the sample to authoritative laboratory for further test.
